GRIC Newspaper Clippings
Paywalled Articles Suck :(
I interrupted my ongoing series of reviewing cool moments in GRIC history from the Gila River Indian News archives because I went on a rabbithole looking into one of the stories I found in the archive.
So, I paid for a Newspapers.com subscription and I’ve lost way too many hours of my life now…
If interested, check out my clippings → HERE ←
I wish Newspapers.com didn’t have a paywall… once I’m done doing this project I’m hopeful I can find some time to export all the clips and build my own database of GRIC-related stories so people don’t have to pay for accessing our history…
What project you ask?
Well, for the past few weeks I’ve been building a collection of articles about past GRIC leaders.
One project in my parking lot (among too many others…) is a historical database of past GRIC leaders - Mainly elected officials like Governors and Council Members. So, I’ve been doing searches to find any articles related to them to help build some details around their lives.
I’d like to also get Community Member memories or family memories of each leader as well, but like many projects I juggle, I’m starting with something small and kinda manageable…
I was able to afford ~6 months of a subscription, so I’ll be adding articles I find that mention our past leaders while it lasts. If you are interested, you are welcome to check it out.
Sorry for those who don’t have a Newspaper.com subscription - but if you don’t want to shell out for the subscription, you can search through the tags and view the headlines at least.
Like THIS tag about articles I’ve found with pictures of past leaders or projects.

Also, working on this I also keep coming across the work of the amazing Sylvia Antone
When she was part of the AmeriCorps program years ago Sylvia worked on a project to search for obituaries for local Veterans and make clippings to help support their VA claims.
She has an amazing collection of clips for Veterans and other Veteran-related events.
I came across so many shared clippings and I was so excited to see her amazing work. Big, BIG props to her and her 1500+ collection of clips. Great historian.
